Obituary

Vicki Stewart-Ford, 64, died July 10, 2010 at 6 a.m. at Carle Foundation Hospital. She was born January 16, 1946 in LaSalle, Illinois to Frank and Violet (Noble) Stewart. She married Thomas Stewart at the Wesleyan Foundation Church, Urbana on October 1, 1968. He preceded her in death.

She married JC Ford on November 25, 2006 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Urbana. He survives. Survivors include one son Brian Stewart and (Barbie Rogers) of Rantoul and one grandson Aleczander Jakub, one brother James Stewart of Sun City, Arizona, one niece Emily Fancher of Louisville, KY and 2 nephews Nigel Stewart of Houston, TX and Eli Stewart of Florida, and many, many friends.

Vicki spent most of her life in the area but moved in and out of Champaign County at times. She attended Urbana High School and graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in journalism.

Over the years Vicki served on the Champaign County Board and also on the C-U Mass Transit District Board. She was actively involved with appropriate housing for persons with disabilities and was on the Champaign-Urbana disabilities task force. In 2006 The Illinois Radio Group awarded Vicki with the Outstanding Woman of the Year You Should Know award. Vicki dedicated her last 20 years to the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP, a program of Family Service), as Program Director. She had a passionate belief in the great value of volunteerism and the good it brought to our communities.

Vicki Stewart-Ford will be missed by all.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 24, 2010 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Urbana. Pastor Bob Rasmus will officiate. Renner-Wikoff Chapel & Crematory 1900 S. Philo Rd. Urbana is handling the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Food for Senior's program, 48 Main Street, Champaign, or the donor's choice. Condolences may be offered at renner-wikoffchapel.com.
