Violet A. Humes, 93, passed away at 3:43 a.m., Saturday, March 24, 2012 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at Eastlawn Burial Park, Urbana. Rev. Michael Smith will officiate.

Mrs. Humes was born February 16, 1919 in Bement, Illinois to parents Carrie and William Shumard. She married Joseph Jewel in 1938 in Illinois. He preceded her in death in 1976.

Survivors include sons; Larry Humes (wife; Zandra), of Urbana, Roger Humes, of Urbana, daughter; Joyce Leigh, of Urbana, brothers; Troy Shumard, of Bement, Guy Shumard, of Bement, William Shumard, of Bement, eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Violet was preceded in death by her parents, one son; Maynard Humes, one daughter June Elaine, and one grandchild.

Mrs. Humes was a member of Living Hope Foursquare Church, Urbana.
