Viola Mae (Hendricks) Kaufman, 90, passed away peacefully and went home to be with her Lord and Savior on May 5, 2014, surrounded by her loved ones at Life Care Center in Orange Park, FL. She was born in Urbana in November 1923 to the late Earle and Myrtle Hendricks. She graduated from Urbana High School in 1941 and kept in close contact with her classmates as a member of the "41ers." The group met regularly for lunch and other activities over these many years. Viola married Orville Kaufman in December 1946, residing the majority of her life in Champaign. She was employed as the secretary of First Baptist Church in Champaign for 18 years. She relocated to Orange Park in June 2010.

During her final days, she was continually surrounded by her loving, supportive family and the dear friends she made at Life Care. Viola was known for her sense of humor and kindness as well as for being feisty. "Vi" will be most remembered as a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her first grandson, Brian, in January 1979 and her husband of 54 years, Orville, in January 2001. Viola is survived by her son, Greg, and his wife, Brenda (Taylor); daughter, Judy; three grandsons, Justin, Nathan and Aaron; five great grand-children; and her two siblings, sister, Lois (Hendricks) Mullins, and brother, Richard Hendricks.

A remembrance service will be held at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Rd, Urbana. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 with a service at 11:00 a.m. Viola will be laid to rest alongside her husband at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Champaign.
