Obituary

Vincent J. McDonald, 92, of Urbana passed away Tuesday (Jan. 16, 2018) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

He was born April 21, 1925, in Galena, Illinois, the son of Michael and Matilda McDonald. He married Norma Genotte Feller on June 25, 1955, in Kankakee. She died in 2004.

He is survived by daughter Jean McDonald of Champaign and stepsons Richard of Urbana, Robert (Theresa) of White Heath and James (wife Marion) Feller of Urbana. Also surviving are granddaughter Lorri (Clint) Zoch of Tolono and grandson Steven Feller of Savoy, great-granddaughters Shelby and Madison Zoch, and niece Ann (Sal) Moreno of Petaluma, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Edith Stump of San Anselmo, California.

After graduation from Galena High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in July 1943. He served as an electronic tech first class on the USS Commencement Bay.

After his discharge from the Navy, he earned a degree in electrical engineering at the University of Illinois. Upon graduation, he started working in the UI's Department of Civil Engineering. An associate professor and principal research engineer, he retired after 40 years in the department in 1990 as a professor emeritus.

A private family service was held Friday morning, Jan. 19, at Renner-Wikoff Funeral Home in Urbana. Burial will be Tuesday, Jan. 23, at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Champaign.
