Vernon Eugene Halberstadt, 84, of Urbana passed away at 11:20 a.m., Sunday, December 18, 2011 at Carle Hospital, Urbana.

Mr. Halberstadt was born September 2, 1927 in Urbana, IL to parents Irene Taylor and Russell Halberstadt. He married his first wife, Florence Latos, in 1956. She preceded him in death on January 13, 1972. In 1987, he married Ruth Flygare; she survives. Also surviving are son; Rusty Halberstadt, of Urbana, four step-children, 12 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, brothers; Tiny Halberstadt (Mary), of Urbana, Bob Halberstadt (Terri), of Champaign, two nieces, and three nephews. Vernon was preceded in death by one son, David, in 2004.

Vernon served in the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. After his service, he worked for Walston and Co. in Chicago from 1955 to 1972. In 1972 he moved to Urbana to manage Walston and Co. in Champaign. He was the branch manager and Associate Vice President of A.G. Edwards and Sons until he retired in 1991.
