Verna Jean May, 71, of Urbana, IL died May 13, 2009. Memorial services to be held 1:00 pm, Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at Danville National Cemetery. Rev. Michael Smith will officiate. Renner-Wikoff Chapel will be taking care of the arrangements.

Mrs. May was born on July 17, 1937 a daughter of Vern Nelson Holloway and Dorothy Marie Blackford. She married Bill May on February 9, 1957. He preceded her in death in 2004. She was preceded in death by her father in 1985, her mother in 2008, and a sister, Virginia Schmidt in 2003.

She is survived by four children Bill May of Mahomet; Deborah May Walker of Champaign, Teresa Zebe of Tolono, and Barbie Johnson of Penfield; a sister, Mary Ann Klump of Robinson, IL; five grandchildren, Shelly Molt of Mahomet, Abby May of Mahomet, Zebo Zebe of Tolono, Christopher Walker of Champaign, Lindsey Johnson of Penfield, and Austin Johnson of Penfield.

Mrs. May was a member of the First Baptist. She was a Girl Scout leader, Brownie Leader, Cub Scout leader, and assisted her husband with Boy Scouts. They also had a cabin in Shawnee National Forest (Rocky Top). They both worked very hard to clear and rebuild the cabin in Elizabethtown. Mrs. May worked at Burnham City Hospital for 10 years as a transporter, 5 years at Covenant as a transporter, and Clarke Lindsey Village as a Health Care Tech. She enjoyed cooking and making Christmas cookies with friends to pass out to family and nursing homes, knitting, and crocheting.
