URBANA, IL- Velma L. Wood, 89, of Urbana, died at 2:41 A.M., Saturday, December 29, 2007 at her residence.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M., Monday, December 31, 2007 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana, IL. Rev. John Sims will officiate. Burial will be held at Yearsley Cemetery, rural Urbana, IL. Visitation will be held one hour prior to funeral services at the funeral home.

Mrs. Wood was born February 7, 1918 at Seymour, IL, a daughter of Ulysses S. and Sarah J. Moore Carper. She married Paul E. Wood on February 17, 1938 at Champaign. He preceded her in death on November 9, 1990. Survivors include a son, Arthur Paul Wood of Urbana and a daughter, Connie Lou Wood Smith of Urbana. 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly L. Wood Boyd, and two brothers, Carroll and Clyde Carper.

Mrs. Wood attended Seymour schools and graduated from Champaign High School. She had worked for Montgomery Ward in Urbana and was a homemaker. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Urbana, and Champaign County Home Bureau.
