Velma F. Lammers was born on May 15, 1924 in Sidney, Illinois. She is the daughter of Alfred (Bud) Bange and Ura McElwee Bange.

She married Everett Lietz of Sadorus in 1941 and then Erwin Lammers of Buckley in 1960.

Velma is preceded in death by her parents, one son, Larry Everett Lietz, one brother, Virgil Bange and two sisters, Delores Bogan and Phyllis Ault.

She is survived by one son, Roy Lietz (Sharon) of N. Ft. Myers, Fl.; daughters: Sharon Pulliam, Oakland, Il; Anita Lietz, Savoy, Il; Donna Erwin, St. Joseph, Il; and Diane Ruch (Jeff) Bloomington, Il., one brother, Ronald Bange (LaDonna) Savoy, Il., and dear friend, Margaret Marko, St. Joseph, Il. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Her beloved dog, Buffy, also survived her.

Velma attended Sidney High School and took computer classes at Parkland College later in life. She worked as a switchboard operator at Mercy Hospital.

Velma enjoyed playing several different musical instruments, attending quilt shows, collected humming bird memorabilia, plates and thumbprint glassware. She was a past member of UFW 620, Urbana and the Carle Auxiliary. She sang with the Mothersingers at PTA's, making a few appearances on TV. She loved gospel and country music.

Funeral services will be held 12:00 noon, Thursday, June 2, 2011 at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in St. Joseph. Rev. Seth Jersild will officiate. Burial will be in G.A.R. Cemetery in Homer. A visitation will be held Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at the church. Renner-Wikoff Chapel 1900 S. Philo Rd. Urbana is handling the arrangements.
