Valada Marie Keister, 87, of Urbana, died at 9:59 a.m. on Wednesday (July 25, 2012) at Champaign-Urbana Regional Rehabilitation Center, Savoy. She is remembered lovingly for her kindness, generosity, sense of humor, and independence. She was born on November 14, 1924, in Evansville, Indiana; attended schools in Danville and Urbana; and was a 1942 graduate of Urbana High School. She retired in 1985 from the Commercial Savings and Loan (later named Mutual Home and Savings), after 34 years as teller. Previous employment included positions at S.S. Kresge, Illinois Power Company, the University of Illinois, and C.S. Johnson. She is survived by her sisters-in-law Juanita Keister of Urbana and Toni Keister of Grand Junction, Colorado; her nieces Cheryl (John) Nimz of Champaign; Donna (Keith) Morris of Spring, Texas; Terry Keister of Savoy; nephew David (Janet) Keister of Jacksonville, Florida; three great nieces and two great nephews; many great-great nieces and nephews; and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clara (nee Holtz) and Carl Keister of Urbana, and her brothers, Earl Keister of Urbana and Raymond Keister of Grand Junction, Colorado. Her visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday July 28, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 701 E. Florida, Urbana, where she was a long-time member. The funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Terry Strom will officiate. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Urbana. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or the Champaign County Humane Society.
