Ulla C. Brems (Simoni) passed away on Feb. 15, 2018 at the age of 97. She was the loving wife for 56 years of the late Hans J. Brems, professor of Economics at the University of Illinois. She leaves three loving daughters; Lisa Brayton and her husband Steve of Massachusetts, Marianne Brems and her wife Joan of California, and Karen Brems and her friend Karl of California. She also leaves her nephews Claus and Peter Hofman-Bang and Jorgen and Henrik Brems and their families of Denmark and a cousin Kirsten Maclean of Canada. She was the daughter of the late Emil and Ellen Simoni (Hoeck) of Denmark and the sister of the late Esther Hofman-Bang of Denmark. She always took great joy in her many friendships and wrote long, beautiful letters to her family and her friends. And she kept every letter she ever received. She loved the outdoors, hiking, cross-country skiing and bike riding into her 80s. She was known for a tennis serve that took sizzling spins. She knew where all the best wildflowers in Eastern Illinois were to be found and when they bloomed. Her daughters are grateful to her many kind caregivers who helped her in her apartment at Clark-Lindsey Village over the years and to the nurses at Harbor Light Hospice and Meadowbrook Health Center who cared for her during her final illness. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 26 at the First United Methodist Church of Urbana. Arrangements are being handled by Renner-Wikoff Chapel & Crematory, 1900 Philo Rd., Urbana. Contributions in her name may be made to a charity of one's choice.
