Thomas William Costa, 74, of Rantoul, passed away at 7:00 P.M. on Monday, June 9, 2014, at his home, surrounded by his family. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, Urbana. A visitation will be held from 10:00 A. M. - 12:00 P.M. prior to the funeral. Burial will take place at Mt. Hope Cemetery in the Mausoleum.

Tom was born in Urbana on August 14, 1939 to parents Frank and Goldie (Wilson) Costa. They preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death was his brother, Peter.

On July 29, 1977, Tom married his loving wife, Phyllis Cruse in Urbana, she survives. Also surviving are his step-son, William (Dee) Greer of Urbana, his step-daughter, Betty (Steve) Shoemaker of Rantoul, his sister, Patricia Barrett of Savoy, six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Tom was a graduate of Urbana High School and an Urbana Police Officer for over 20 years. He loved sports and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He also enjoyed going gambling on the riverboat in Peoria. He was very proud of his heritage and would often say things in Italian. Tom was a family man and enjoyed giving his grandchildren a hard time. He is going to be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
