Obituary

Teresa Zapp, 89 of Urbana died at 2:35 a.m. Friday, May 2, 2008 at home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 5, 2008 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Urbana. The Rev. Stephen Willard will officiate. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at Calvary Cemetery, Reedsburg, Wisconsin. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, May 4, 2008 at the Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, Urbana, with a Rosary Service at 4:30 p.m.

Miss Zapp was born on September 24, 1918 in Reedsburg, Wisconsin, the daughter of Peter and Anna Carroll Zapp.

Survivors include a brother Francis Zapp of Lakewood, Colorado niece; Rita (Dennis) Campion of Champaign, great nieces; Anna Campion of Norman, Oklahoma, Sara (Steve) Zawoyski of Ednia, Minnesota, Carrie Campion of Chicago, Andrea (Aman) Kothari of Mountain View, California and Amy Campion of Chicago and their children plus numerous other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.

Miss Zapp graduated from Reedsburg High School in 1937 and from St. Mary's School of Nursing in 1940.

She served as Surgical Floor Nursing Supervisor for Veterans Affairs Hospitals and helped establish the Cardiac Care Unit at the VA Hospital in Madison before retiring from nursing in 1979. She had also worked at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota where she worked with "Young Dr. Charles Mayo".

Miss Zapp was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Urbana, where she was a member of the Altar Guild, senior meetings and volunteered as a telephone receptionist and a morning mass participant. A member of St. Joseph's Hospital Guild in Ashville, North Carolina, Association of Operating Room Nurses, St. Mary's Alumni Association, the Illini Club and a volunteer at the Champaign County Nursing Home.

She loved to travel having visited ten European Countries, numerous times to the Caribbean, the Holy Land, Mexico plus New Zealand, China and Disney World and cherished her time with family and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
