Sylvan W. Phillips 90 of Urbana died at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at the Champaign County Nursing Home, Urbana.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 21, 2016 at Mt. Olive Cemetery, Mayview; Rev. Andy Adams officiating. Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Phillips was born on April 2, 1925 in Urbana, the son of Arthur and Lula Lang Phillips. He married Laura Mae James on November 23, 1948 in Englewood, Colorado; she died on February 4, 2009.

Survivors include two daughters; Wenda Speers of Savoy, Robin Divan of Urbana, one son; Guy Phillips of Urbana, two brothers; Philip Phillips of Urbana, Sterling Phillips of Georgia, one sister; Barbara Kirby of Urbana, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son; Jay Phillips, two brothers and four sisters.

Mr. Phillips was the owner of Standard Gas Station until 1981; he then worked in maintenance for Champaign County retiring in 1989.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Urbana.

Mr. Phillips loved model airplanes, fishing, gardening, golf, dancing and euchre.

He could build or fix anything and was always ready for a good laugh.
