Geneva "Susie" Mae Dehn, 94, of Champaign, passed away, surrounded by her family, Wednesday, April 23, 2014, 6:04 p.m. at Presence Covenant Medical Center. A visitation will be held Sunday, April 27th from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Renner-Wikoff Chapel & Crematory, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana. A funeral will be held 10 :00 a.m., Monday April 28th at the First United Methodist Church of Champaign, 210 W. Church St., with Rev. Tom Corum officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Urbana.
Mrs. Dehn was born May 2, 1919 in French Lick, Indiana to parents Luther and Geneva (Moery) Redman. She married James Francis Dehn on Valentine's Day in 1942. He preceded her in death February 20, 1978.
Survivors include son, George Dehn (Judy), of Champaign, sister, Charlotte "Billie" Beyerlein, of Waukesha, Wisconsin, grandsons, Anthony Dehn (Leslie), of Chicago, James Dehn, of Champaign, and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Jayma Sue Dehn, and son, Jeff Dehn.
Mrs. Dehn graduated from French Lick High School before attending Indiana University, where she studied English literature and journalism. During this time, she was the City Editor of the Greene County Evening World of Bloomfield Newspaper. She was a member of both the Tri Kappa and Theta Sigma Phi Sorority and the Bloomfield Business and Professional Women's Club.
After receiving her Bachelors degree, Susie started her family and began her career as a "domestic engineer." She also became very active in the Church and belonged to the women's group and the Wesley Covenant Circle. She also volunteered for the pre-school and daycare. In addition, she served on several church boards and was the editor for the church newspaper.
When she wasn't helping at church, Susie enjoyed watching NASCAR. She was a strong woman and loved her family dearly.
