Susan was born November 11, 1954, in Paxton, daughter of Juanita and Virgil Naugle. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents. Survivors include a brother, Virgil (Butch) Naugle and sister (in-law) Sharon of Mahomet, Il. Also surviving are her niece, Megan Layne Naugle of Belgrade, Montana and her nephew, Clinton Naugle, wife Ally, of Savoy, Il. She is survived by an uncle and aunt and many cousins.

Susan, Miss Naugle, began her teaching career immediately after graduating from SIU in 1976 with her Teaching degree in a 3rd grade class in Steelville, Il. This was followed by 36 years of teaching first grade in her hometown of Paxton. Teaching was more than her profession, it was her passion. As a teacher at Clara Peterson School, she worked diligently to bring to her school as much outside assistance as she could find to improve the quality of education offered the lucky children who passed through her class and this school. She wrote and received more than 17 grants in one year and many after that. She received the first smart board and obtained many free computers for the school, along with other free items including games and software. Susie was all about 'free', if it was available she wanted it for her school, because she wanted to help provide the best for her students.

Susan was instrumental in developing enrichment curriculum for her first graders. She was on the Leadership Team, the Positive Behavior Instructional System Team, and worked on the internal review school improvement plan. Susan was active in the Illinois Education Association especially with negotiations. She was a 'Math Their Way' instructor. Susan was the Clare Peterson technology 'go to' person before the school hired a tech person. Susan participated in teacher plays and volunteered for Family Night programs. She was a mentor to many new teachers that came on the scene.

Susan was fiercely independent and a very loyal friend. She had a great sense of humor and always did what was best for the kids. In her younger days she loved the competition of softball games, volleyball and basketball. More recently you could find her on the golf course or fishing, enjoying the out of doors. She chose to be private about her physical struggles not wanting to be treated differently. She had amazing determination to persevere and never give up. This is how she will be remembered by her family.
