Shirley R. Lewis, 89, of Urbana, formerly of Sunnyvale, California, died at 12:15 a.m. Saturday, July 4, 2009 at the Illini Heritage Nursing Home, Champaign.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Lewis was born on January 7, 1920 in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Clarence D. and Lillie E. Missimer Gibbs. She married William A. Lewis on April 17, 1944 in Chicago; he died on May 12, 1985.

Survivors include two daughters; Ellen Plaza of McAllen, Texas and Monica Grant of Urbana; one sister, Phyllis Sidorsky of Alexandria, Virginia; two grandchildren, Abraham Martin and Lidia Plaza; three step grandchildren and five step great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Alan Lewis; one step son, William C. Lewis; one step grandson and one sister.
