Shirley J. Dye, 94, of Urbana passed away at 7:00 am on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at Heartland Healthcare in Champaign.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel in Urbana. Rev. Norman McCormick will officiate. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery following the service.

Shirley was born on March 23, 1923 in Urbana, a daughter of James A. Sr. and Beulah Marie Paris Saltsgaver. She married Shirley Arnold Dye on June 8, 1941 in Urbana. Arnie passed away on January 23, 2014.

Survivors include a daughter, Joni E. Dye Cornell, son in law, David Cornell, four grandchildren, and two great grandsons. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, three brothers, an infant daughter, and her son David G. Dye.

She graduated from Urbana High School, class of 1941.

Shirley was the founder of Jack and Jill Nursery School and served as administrator of the school and teacher for twenty-five years. She was a member at First Baptist Church of Urbana since she was twenty-three years old, making her a member for over seventy years. She also served as a member of the Woman's Club of Champaign-Urbana, the Urbana Park District Senior Club and a volunteer receptionist at the Stevick Senior Citizen Center with RSVP.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Urbana or to an organization of the donor's choice.
