Mr. Shirley "Arnie" Dye, 91, of Urbana, passed away at 3:00 a.m., Thursday, January 23, 2014 at Heartland Health Care Center, Champaign. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 29, 2014 from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Rd. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home following the visitation at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Lyndall Propst of First Baptist Church of Urbana will officiate. Burial will be held following the service at Woodlawn Cemetery, Urbana.

Mr. Dye was born June 27, 1922 in Urbana, Illinois to parents Ralph and Mayme (Fromm) Dye. He married Shirley J. Saltsgaver June 8, 1941; she survives.

Also surviving are children; David Dye (Mona), of Champaign, Joni Cornell (David), of Indian Lake Estates, Florida, grandchildren; Shawndelle Bridgeman (Benjamin), Ashley Runyon (Robert), Arik Cornell, and great-grandson; John Robert Runyon III. Arnie was preceded in death by his parents, one infant daughter, and brothers; Cecil W. Dye and Ted Varner.

Mr. Dye graduated from Urbana High School where he was active in the orchestra. After high school, Arnie entered the United States Army in 1943 and served with the 91st Infantry Division in the Po Valley, Italy Campaign.

He retired from the United States Postal Service after 28 years.

Arnie was a 68 year member of the First Baptist Church of Urbana, where he held many offices and served on many boards. In addition, he was also the Assistant Organist.

His family, church, music, golf, and fishing were the interests in his life. He was an accomplished musician and played the piano and pipe organ.

Arnie was a kind man who loved his family very much. He will be deeply missed by those whose lives he touched.
