Shirley Nichols, 82, of Urbana died peacefully in her home on Wednesday morning, September 26, 2012. Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory is in charge of arrangements. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Sidney.

She was born in Champaign on September 28, 1929 and lived on a farm near Sidney with her parents, Clarence and Evelyn Burt. Shirley is survived by two sisters; Betty Spillyards of Little Rock, Arkansas and Doris Werts of Sidney and one brother; Robert Burt of Champaign.

Her parents and her husband; Fred Nichols preceded her in death.

She lived for a time in California, Colorado, Massachusetts and Arizona. She was a member of a camera club in Massachusetts and traveled extensively to Africa, Alaska, Hawaii, the Panama Canal, Australia and New Zealand.

In Massachusetts she and her husband owned a huge facility to board animals. They did grooming and raised West Highland Terriers to show and sell.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Champaign County Humane Society.
