Obituary

Sharon A. Eckerty 72 of Urbana died at 12:10 a.m. Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, November 6, 2010 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, Urbana; the Rev. Lyndall Propst will officiate. Burial will be in Fairfield Cemetery, Newman. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Eckerty was born on September 23, 1938 in Hammond, Indiana the daughter of Chet and Edythe Hood Whitfield. She married Don Eckerty on June 20, 1958 in Broadlands; he died on July 6, 1987.

Survivors include three children; Debbie (Mike) Messmer of Urbana, Doug (Rhonda) Eckerty of Gibson City and Dawn (Greg) Spencer of Hudson, nine grandchildren; Erin (Matt) Corbin, Luke Messmer, Kate (Kyle) Beaumont, Shelby Webber, Donna Eckerty, Darren Eckerty, Taylor Webber, Kyle Spencer and Danielle Eckerty.

She was preceded in death by one great granddaughter; Braelyn Corbin, two brothers; Gary Whitfield and Bill Whitfield and one sister; Darlene Young.

Mrs. Eckerty graduated from ABL High School.

She retired as an administrator for First Busey Trust.

Mrs. Eckerty was a past member of Webber Street Church of Christ. She enjoyed bowling and playing cards with her card club.

Her life was centered around her family. She created many family traditions through which she will continue to be remembered. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy.
