Sandra (Shapiro) Finck-Molasky, 74, of Champaign, passed in the early morning, Saturday, December 27, 2014 in her home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 12:30 p.m. at the Mausoleum of Mt. Hope Cemetery and graveside, with Rabbi Michael Datz officiating. There will be a gathering at Sinai Temple immediately following on Tuesday. All are welcome.
Ms. Molasky was born September 21, 1940 in Duluth, Minnesota to parents Edward Arnold Shapiro and Florence Ethel (Sanders) Shapiro-Viscomi. They preceded her in death. Survivors include daughters, Charlotte Finck, of Champaign, and Avigail Laird (Christopher Smith), Benjamin Schwarze, concomitant, brother, Herbert Shapiro, of Richfield, Minnesota, half-sister, Darlene Levenson (Mark), of St. Paul, Minnesota, and niece, Shira Levenson, of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
After Ms. Molasky received her Bachelor's Degree from Eastern Illinois University, she spent the majority of her career working in daycare centers. In addition, she worked as a substitute teacher and teacher's aid in the Champaign-Urbana School district with special needs children. She also worked as a journalist for the local Courier, as a cake and sugar decorator, and at Olan Mills Photography.
Sandra had started with B'nai Brith Youth Organization (BBYO) and remained active. She volunteered with many Jewish organizations. She participated in many cancer support activities, including the Relay for Life, the Cancer Support group at Christie Clinic, and coffee groups at the Wellness Center and the Salvation Army. She was active at Sinai Temple and sang in the choir and with the Shabbat Singers.
Shiva will be observed Wednesday, January 7, 2014 at 5:45 p.m., in Sinai Temple's Davis Chapel, Champaign and all are welcome to attend.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family to offset expenses or directly to Renner-Wikoff Chapel.
