Ruth Marie McCartney, 89, of Urbana, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 4, 2026 with her family lovingly by her side. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, caring heart, and the abundant warmth she shared with everyone blessed to know her.

Ruth was born in Champaign on April 29, 1937, to Alva and Lela Bennett. On November 28, 1952, she wed the love of her life, Robert L. McCartney. Together, they built their life on a foundation of devotion and family, sharing 66 happy years of marriage until his passing on December 10, 2018.

Ruth is survived by her children Bob McCartney (Deb), Scott McCartney (Celia), Sherri Johnson Voges (Tim), and Linda Murphy (Mike). She also leaves behind nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren who will carry her love and memory with them.

Ruth was reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Robert; her parents, Alva and Lela Bennett; her step-father, Straut Brownfield; four brothers; three sisters; her granddaughter, Kristin McCartney; and her son-in-law, Scott Johnson.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 26 from 9:00am to 11:00am at the R.E. Franks Center in Philo. Family and friends are invited to gather, share cherished stories, and honor a life beautifully lived. Ruth’s kindness, love, and lasting influence will continue to shine through the family she adored.
