Ruth Jeanette (Whitson) Drayton, age 83, of Urbana, formerly of Crystal Lake, IL, died 10:35 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, Feb. 13 in the Activity Room at Clark-Lindsey Village, Urbana. Private burial will be held at the St. Mary's Episcopal Church Courtyard, Crystal Lake. Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana is in charge of local arrangements. Mrs. Drayton was born Oct. 19, 1923 at Yates City, IL, the daughter of Herman and Evelyn (Liddell) Whitson. She married Robert John Drayton on Dec. 20, 1942 in Urbana. He survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Janet O'Connell of Lombard, Susan Spangler of San Diego, Cal., two sons, John Drayton of Decatur, Thomas Drayton of Burlington, Wis., sister, Helen Yale of Mesa, Ariz., eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Mrs. Drayton is a graduate of Urbana High School and attended the University of Illinois. She was secretary/treasure at her husband's architecture office. She was active in the League of Women Voters in Crystal Lake where she was past president. She was chairwoman and participated in many activities at Clark Lindsay Village.
