Ruby Maxine Slade passed into the Lord's care Tuesday, April 6, at 11:30 p.m. in Urbana. Visitation will be at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 10. Following the visitation, Richard Gault will present the eulogy at the graveside service at 11:00 a.m. at Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign.

She was born Ruby Massey to parents Grace and Roy Massey on July 31, 1926. She is survived by brothers Ralph Massey of Lakeland, Florida and Max Logan Massey of Peoria and half sister, Peggy Mabry of Rantoul.

During the war years she married Harold Slade in Urbana and they remained together for 60 years until his death in 2002. Ruby was a wife and mother during those years. She is survived by two daughters, Sharen Slade of Urbana and Crystal Graham of Austin, TX. Also surviving are one grandson, Brandon Graham, wife Rhea, and great grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Loren Graham, all of Austin.

She is best known for her love of children and was affectionately named "Grandma Cookies" by Brandon.

Memorials may be hade in Ruby's name to the Champaign County Humane Society, Crisis Nursery or Cunningham Children's Home.
