Roy Lloyd Nugent, 90, of Champaign passed away at 6:26 p.m. on Monday, October 31, 2016 at Amber Glen Alzheimer's Special Care Center in Urbana. A Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 4, 2016 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel in Urbana. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at the funeral home. Father Doug Hennessy will officiate. Burial will take place at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Champaign after the funeral.
Roy was born in Lansing, MI on October 21, 1926 to parents Robert and Iva (Easton) Nugent. They preceded him in death. On February 15, 1947 he married Sarah Ann Laroe at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Urbana. She passed away on April 1, 1979. Also preceding him in death was one brother and one sister. He is survived by his children; Sharon Clark of Pembroke Pines, FL, Geraldine Goldberg (Jeff) of Champaign, Theresa Mathy (Steve) of Effingham and Jim Nugent (Kandi) of Champaign. His sisters Norma Signore (Al) of Hollywood, FL, Betty Gudgel of Urbana, nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren also survive him. Roy also leaves behind his significant other, Nedra Brown of Champaign.
Roy was a graduate of Champaign Senior High School. After school, he enlisted in the United States Army Co D 31st Infantry 7th Division. He was honorably discharged on December 4, 1946. He also served as a sergeant in the Army National Guard.
He owned ABC Sanitary & Hauling and retired from the Uof I as a Building Service Worker. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, DAV and the VFW 5520. Roy loved the outdoors especially fishing and hunting. He enjoyed painting, bowling golfing and spending time with his family.
