Roy Jacob Keller 83 of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin formerly of Urbana died peacefully at 12:27 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2014 at the Strawberry Lane Nursing Home, Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 2, 2014 at the Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, Urbana, The Reverend Julie Dowler will officiate, assisted by Fred Newman. Entombment in Mt. Hope Mausoleum, Champaign will be private.
Mr. Keller was born on March 13, 1931 in Winona, Minnesota, the son of Roy and Edna Leerkamp Keller. He married Margery Borger on June 30, 1953 in Winona, Minnesota.
Mr. Keller is survived by five children; Susan Keller of Eugene, Oregon, JuliAnn (Eric) Norton of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, Roy David Keller of Urbana, Illinois, Mary (Curt) Handley of Mokena, Illinois and Patricia (Mike) Pearlman of Largo, Florida, two brothers, David Keller and Phillip Keller all of Winona, Minnesota and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, one brother, and his wife.
Mr. Keller graduated from Winona State University, Washington State University and earned his doctorate from the University of Illinois, where he is Assistant Professor Emeritus.
He participated in and taught Football, Basketball, Swimming, Track and Tennis. He coached Football and Basketball and Cross Country at University High School, Champaign and St. Cloud State College, St. Cloud, Minnesota, where he was Director of the Department of Physical Education.
At the University of Illinois, he was the Assistant Dean of Physical Education when it opened. He worked with Fitness programs and wheelchair athletics. He authored a book on (Physical Education Facilities) and Co-Authored several articles on sports.
He retired from the University of Illinois as an Assistant Dean in the College of Applied Sciences.
Mr. Keller was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Urbana.
