Ronald Charles Zimmer, 79, of Champaign passed away at 7:55 a.m. on Friday, July 19, 2024, at Illini Heritage Nursing & Rehab Center.

He was born in Urbana, Illinois, the son of Roland & Norma (Roever) Zimmer.

Ron is survived by his sister – Carol (Zimmer) Scharlau and nephews – Edwin Scharlau III of Tampa, Florida and Robert Scharlau of Ft. Myers, Florida.

He is preceded by his parents.

Ron spent his entire career in the computer department at the University of Illinois. Ron enjoyed travelling to racing events, particularly NASCAR, and Drum & Bugle Corps events. He was also a diehard University of Illinois sports fan, particularly enjoying his season tickets to basketball and football games.
