Roger Lee
Otis
Oct 11, 1949 — Aug 16, 2026
Homer, previously of Urbana
Roger Lee Otis, 76, of Homer, formerly of Urbana, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 16, 2026, surrounded by his family.
Roger was born in Urbana, Illinois, the son of Richard and Mary (Whitlock) Otis. He married Linda “Susie” Vrettos Otis, and together they shared 45 years of marriage, building a life centered on faith and family. Together, they raised six children: two sons, a daughter, and then triplet daughters. Susie preceded him in death on March 17, 2017.
Roger is survived by his six children and their families: Nathan Otis (Krista) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and their children, Ian and Kayla; Michael Otis (Shelby) of Champaign, Illinois, and their children, Jackson and Carson; Laura Delrossi of Homer, Illinois, and her children, Jacob, Leah, Nicolas, and Addison; Krystal (Nathan) of Peoria, Illinois, and their children, Mason, Brendan, Olivia, Easton, and Cooper; Amy Otis of Urbana, Illinois, and her children, Kaleb and Kamryn; and Natalie Martinez-Otis (Saul) of Urbana, Illinois, and their children, Tyler, Lylianna, Santi, and Diego. He was a proud grandfather of 19 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his brothers, Peter Otis (Christie) of Shelbyville, Illinois, and Steve Otis (Valerie) of Colorado; and his sister, Sharan Timmerman (Doug) of Bloomington-Normal, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Susie; his parents; and his brother, Ronnie Otis (Nancy).
Roger spent many years as a self-employed painter and owner of Integrity Painting. He took pride in working hard, doing things the right way, and providing for the family he loved so deeply.
At the heart of Roger’s life was his love for Jesus. His faith was not something he simply spoke about. It was something he tried to live each day. He believed deeply in the teachings of the Bible and wanted to show God’s love through the way he treated and cared for others.
Roger was a member of Living Word Fellowship Church and taught Sunday school in his younger years. He had a special way with the kids in his classes, and many remembered him as one of their favorite Sunday school teachers. Years later, his family still hear stories from people who remembered being in his class and how much they loved having him as their teacher. Those stories are a special reminder of the lasting impression Roger made simply by sharing his faith and being himself.
Outside of church, Roger taught martial arts and had a lifelong love of motorcycles. He was a physically strong man, but those who knew him best knew the gentle heart behind that strength. He loved deeply, protected his family fiercely, and was someone they could always depend on.
Roger also had a wonderful sense of humor and loved making people laugh. Over the years, his children heard the same thing again and again from people who knew him: “Your dad was so funny.” Like the stories from his Sunday school days, those words are a reminder of the many people whose lives Roger touched and the memories he left behind.
Roger will be deeply missed, but his family finds comfort in knowing he is at peace, reunited with Susie, and home with the Lord.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7
