Robert "Bob" Lee Sowers, 58, of Urbana, died at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 13, 2011 at his home, surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, October 17, 2011 at Calvary Baptist Church, 2106 E. Windsor Rd., Urbana; Pastor Gary Gritton will officiate. A visitation will be held from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at the church on Monday. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Urbana.

Mr. Sowers was born August 23, 1953 in Mattoon, Illinois to parents Clara Mae (Foust) and Franklin L. Sowers; they survive. Also surviving are nieces; Tammy Sowers, of Champaign, Tracy Sowers, of Urbana, great nephew; Justin Sowers (fiancAC. Jessica Mattingly), of Champaign, great great niece; Myah Mattingly, of Champaign, and great great nephew; Justin Sowers, Jr., of Champaign. Bob was preceded in death by his brother, Franklin D. Sowers.

Mr. Sowers graduated from Urbana High School. He later worked as a laborer for the Local 703. He was a member of the Northside Gospel Center in Urbana. Bob loved flowers and landscaping. In previous years he enjoyed riding his motorcycle and playing baseball. Bob was a kind individual with a big heart. This was evident by the love and devotion he showed to his family, especially his parents by not only his actions and good deeds, but just his presence. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
