Robert G. Johnson, 83, of Urbana died 8:45 p.m. Saturday, October 24 at the Champaign County Nursing Home in Urbana. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 28, at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana, IL, Rev. J. Michael Smith will officiate. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and interment will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign. Military Rites will be accorded by Champaign VFW Post 5520.

Mr. Johnson was born March 16, 1926 in Urbana, the son of Paul and Docia (Whitsell) Johnson. He married Patricia L. Yonce in 1949 and she survives. He also survived by a daughter, Karen L. Matteson of Sadorus, son, William R. Johnson of Urbana, two grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

Mr. Johnson is a graduate of Urbana High School and was a plumber for the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 149. He served in the US Navy during WWII with the Pacific Fleet in Asia and the Middle East. He was a 65 year member of VFW Post 630, Urbana, a Cubs fan, collected hats and enjoyed gardening. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or VFW Post 630, Urbana.
