Richard Milton Williams, 89, of Urbana, passed away at 1:35 p.m., Thursday, July 14, 2016 at Champaign County Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana. Rev. Robert L. Francisco will officiate the service. Burial will be held at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Champaign.

Mr. Williams was born January 6, 1927 in East St. Louis, Illinois to parents Joseph and Martha (Riggleman) Williams. He married Helen Humes; she preceded him in death December 15, 2015. Richard is survived by sons, Daniel Williams (Darlene), of Mesa, Arizona, Randy Williams, of Urbana, Illinois, two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Harold, and half-brother, Ed.

As a young man, Richard enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed in the Philippines and served on the military police force. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

For most of his life, Richard worked for the Champaign-Urbana Sanitary District as a water treatment worker. After retiring from that position, he took a part-time job at the Assembly Hall as a gate worker.
