MAHOMET, IL- Richard "Dick" Schmall, 83, of Mahomet, passed away at 3:00 P.M., Monday, January 2, 2012, at home.
Dick was born January 13, 1928, in Champaign, the son of Everett C. and Esther (Kemp) Schmall. He married Elizabeth "Betty" Murdock on September 2, 1949, at Twin City Bible Church in Urbana. His mother, father, brother, Robert Schmall, and a daughter, L. Kathy Roberts, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, son Steven and daughter-in-law Gail of Urbana, and daughter and son-in-law Debra and Jeff Morrill of Arvada, CO. He is also survived by four grandsons and six great grandchildren.
Dick worked at the Meadow Gold Milk Company for 13 years and then became an independent insurance broker. He retired in 1998 from the University of Illinois Housing Division.
Dick has a long and busy life. He was associated with the Boy Scouts of America and enjoyed it with his son. After first serving on the committee of Troop 17 in Champaign, he later led the troop as Scout Master for several years. He and his son are members of the Order of the Arrow. Dick also loved gardening and sports of all kinds, especially the Chicago Cubs and University of Illinois sports. He was an avid golfer for many years. His hobby was woodworking and he delighted in his wood shop.
Dick had been active at Stratford Park Bible Chapel for 35 years, where he served as treasurer and as an elder.
He touched so many lives, and all who knew his will feel an empty spot with his passing, but he is at home with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and we could not wish for anything better.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 5, 2012, at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana, IL. There will be a Celebration of Life service at Stratford Park Bible Chapel, 2801 W. Kirby Ave., Champaign, IL, at 11:00 A.M. Mr. Ken Raymond will officiate. A private family burial will take place at Bellflower Cemetery, Bellflower, Illinois.
