Obituary

Richard Dale Mahannah, 73, of Urbana, Illinois died at 3:18 AM Tuesday (September 5, 2006) Provena Covenent Medical Center, Urbana, Il. Funeral Services services will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday at St. Patrick's Church, 708 W. Main St. Urbana, Il. The Fr. Joseph Hogan will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Pesotum, Il. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Friday, at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Rd. Urbana, Il. He was born August 18, 1933, in Champaign, Il, a son of Charles Rex , Mabel Alice Newcomb Mahannah. He married Mary Jo Ann Ellingsworth on December 13, 1958, in Pesotum, Il. She survives survives. Survivors include son Jeffrey Dale Mahannah of Champaign, Il, daughter Teresa Ellen Ruspsch of Wauwatosa, Wi. brothers Charles Rex Mahannah III of Urbana, Il, Ray Eugene Mahannah of Champaign, Il and a Sister Martha Ann Guyon of Urbana, Il. There are 2 grandchildren. Mr and Mrs. Mahannah have had several foster children for the state of Illinois. He was preceded in death by 1 daughter and 2 infant children. Mr. Mahannah graduated from Urbana High School in 1958. He worked for several local companies including, a paper carrier for the Courier Newspaper, A&P Grocery Store in Urbana, Cross Construction Co., Flynn's Mens Wear, Magnavox, The Urbana Post Office, Swift & Co., McBride's Drug Store, and various Departments at the University of Illinois retiring from the Chemistry Department . He was a member of St. Patrick's Church Urbana, past member of American Legion Post # 71 Urbana, He was a volunteer for the Provena Covenant Hospice Program, and the Urbana Adult Education Literacy Program, and several other local programs. Mr. Mahannah served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed all kinds of activities with his children. He enjoyed reading particularly Civil War books, he also enjoyed country music. Memorial contributions may be made to Champaign County Humane Society, Provena Covenant Hospice Program or the Donor's Choice.
