Richard L. Stunkard, 73 of Tolono passes peacefully at 11:48 p.m. Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born on March 9, 1943 in Urbana, the son of Merrill and Betty Stunkard.
Survivors include his beloved wife; Nancy R. Stunkard, one brother; Darrell (Pat), three sisters; Gale (Bob), Sharon, Bonita (Bill), five children; Richard (Ann), Greg (Diane), Angela, Eric and Samantha (daughter/granddaughter), seven grandchildren; Ashley (joey), Cody (Laura), Kirsten (Dillon), Courtney (Tyler), Mikala, Madison and E.J., nine great grandchildren; Elani, Genevieve, Beatrix, Lenora, Maddix, Cashtyn, Rhys, Odin, Jensyn and Brinley, one step-granddaughter; Haley (Cody), and two step-great grandchildren; Lilly and Klohe.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Merrill and Betty Stunkard and one great grandchild; Brinley.
He served for our country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War on the LST 1096 St. Claire Co.
Richard then married the love of his life, Nancy R. Stunkard in 1967. They were married for 49 glorious years.
Their most cherished moments were spent traveling, attending Richard's Navy reunions and spending time with their family and friends.
Richard retired from Purity Sunbeam Baking Co. after 23 A½ years. He also worked for Progress Tank for 5 years.
A celebration of Richard's life will be held for close family.
All who were fortunate to know Richard appreciated his loving, gentle and kind persona. Richard will be forever and always be with us.
