Richard L. Hays, 68, of Urbana, passed away Friday night, July 27, 2007 at Illini Heritage Rehab & Nursing Home, in Champaign.
Visitation will be at Renner-Wikoff Chapel & Crematory 1900 S. Philo Rd. Urbana on Tuesday, July 31, 2007 from 5-7 PM. His funeral will be Wednesday, August 1, 2007, at 10:30 AM at the funeral home. Dr. John Sims will officiate. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Urbana, IL.
Richard was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on July 30, 1938. He is the son of Glenn and Alyce (Fonner) Hays. He married Patricia (Moore Johnson) on June 7, 1985, she survives.
He is survived by two sons, Daniel Hays and Michael Hays both of Florida; two step-sons, Jeffery Johnson (and Kim) of Champaign and Michael Johnson (and Cynthia) of Urbana; five step-grandchildren: Connor, Kendall, Alexis, Austin, and Grant.
Richard also bids Farewell to his sisters: Virginia Cook of Florida and Ida Kathryn Jones (and Steve) of Texas. And especially the nieces and nephew his sisters gave him.
Richard graduated from Urbana High School in 1956. He played football and wrestled in high school, but was an avid fan of all sports.
He worked as an electrician and was initiated into Electricians Local 601 in December 1963. He retired in 2000.
Richard loved to travel in their motor home and through the years many miles were covered. From coast to coast he saw beauty in the USA. When they stayed at home they enjoyed camping at Shelbyville, where he enjoyed many fish fry's, campfires and watching NASCAR races.
He and Pat loved to go to Illini football games, both home and away. They were proud that they had attended every Bowl game the Illini played in during their time together.
