Richard Ard, 78, of Mahomet, passed away surrounded by his family at 2:20 p.m., Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at his home. A visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana. A funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Mike Smith officiating. Burial will be held at Roselawn Cemetery in Champaign.

Mr. Ard was born May 18, 1935 in Champaign, Illinois to parents Estel Ard and Myra Jones. He married Linda "Winnie" Olwine June 20, 1961 in Brimfield, Indiana. She preceded him in death on July 31, 2002.

Survivors include three sons and three daughters, Danny Ard, of Mahomet, Craig Ard (Linda), of Urbana, Illinois, Dick Shuman (Minsook), of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Debbie Handshoe (Ed), of Shipshewana, Indiana, Shell Smith (Terry), of New Haven, Indiana, Sandy Wells (Harold), of Sumaza Resorts, Indiana, two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and two sisters.

Mr. Ard worked for more than 20 years as a truck driver for Allied Van Lines. He was a Golden Gloves boxer with a 17-1 record. He carried the fighter's mentality with him until the day he passed away.

Richard was a kind man who loved his family dearly.
