Obituary

Rebecca (Becky) Sue Cacioppo, formerly of Champaign, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, January 25, 2026, at the age of 86.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 29, at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S Philo Rd., Urbana, IL 61802. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m., with a graveside service afterward at Woodlawn Cemetery in Urbana.

Becky was born in Champaign, Illinois, on December 15, 1939. She was raised by her mother, Elizabeth (Betty) Auld Shaw, and her stepfather, Carroll Shaw, who lovingly helped shape her life. She lived the majority of her life in Champaign, Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter (Pete) Charles Cacioppo; her parents, Betty Auld Shaw and Carroll Shaw; her brother, Dean Peters; her sister-in-law, Frances Otani; and her daughter, Elizabeth (Beth) Francis Cacioppo.

She is survived by her brother, John (Rita) Peters; her daughters, Cathy (Rex) Brooks, Pamela (Peter) Reed, and Carey Barfield; and her grandchildren, Diana Cacioppo (Wyatt), Rex Alan Brooks (Chelsea), Amanda Brooks (Tyler), Wyatt (Sierra) Brooks, Brady Barfield (Emily), Jesse Barfield, Landen Barfield, Caleb (Dannis) Reed, Hannah (Chance) Gowan, Lydia Reed (Tanner), Chloe Reed, and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and great-grandchildren.

Becky graduated from Champaign High School, where she met her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Pete Cacioppo, whom she later married. Together, Pete and Becky shared 58 years of marriage and raised four beautiful daughters.

Becky was a longtime member of Holy Cross Church in Champaign.

A talented homemaker, Becky loved sewing matching clothes for her daughters when they were younger, sewing dresses, crocheting blankets, making quilts, doing custom embroidery, and cooking delicious meals for her family — especially her famous lasagna. She especially enjoyed tending her garden, particularly her flowers, and tole-painting woodworking projects created by Pete. Together, they sold their handcrafted designs at local craft shows throughout Illinois. Pete and Becky also enjoyed traveling, dining out, and visiting casinos.

Becky had a wonderful sense of humor and an infectious laugh that could light up a room. She was kind hearted, patient, and strong in her faith. A loving mother and devoted wife, she adored her family. She will be deeply missed by many and will forever remain in our hearts. We love you.
