Ralph R. Swarr, 89, of Urbana passed away at 7:12 a.m. on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

Services will be held at a later date.

Ralph was born in Mount Joy, PA, on February 28, 1928 to parents J. Lehman and Edna B. (Rohrer) Swarr. They preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death was his daughter, Rebecca Swarr and his brothers; Howard, Earl, Irving, Russel and Lloyd Swarr.

On December 21, 1963 he married Jane Mosemann in Lancaster, PA and she survives. Also surviving is his daughter Amy Swarr Hill (Jacob) of Elmhurst, IL, his son-in-law Daniel Posner (Jennifer) of Pacific Palisades, CA and four grandchildren; Jacob Posner, Samuel, Benjamin and Jack Hill and honorary grandchildren Giulia DeMaio and Matteo Posner of Pacific Palisades, CA.

At the age of seventeen Ralph was a "cowboy" on a boatload of livestock to Greece in the aftermath of WWII. From 1947-1957 he engaged in farming in Lancaster County, PA.

Ralph earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Michigan State University in 1965.

After graduating he moved to Urbana where he held and retired from the position of Clinical Counselor with the ranks of Assistant to Full Professor Emeritus at the University of Illinois Counseling Center. He provided psychotherapy to students, consultation to other university units, psycho-educational workshops and doctoral intern training with an emphasis on individual and group psychotherapy (1965-1996).

From 1969-1996 Ralph held and retired from the position of Adjunct (Assistant to Full) Professor and then Professor Emeritus of Psychology at the University of Illinois.

He also worked part-time at his private practice in clinical psychology from 1976-2008.
