Phyllis R. Smith 85 of Urbana, passed from this earth surrounded by family and her beloved husband of 59 years at 10:20 a.m. Monday, May 30, 2016 at home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, June 3, 2016 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, Urbana Rev. Tony Crouch will officiate. Burial will be in Danville National Cemetery, Danville. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Smith was born on June 22, 1930 in Martinsville, the daughter of William Irvin and Anna Ruth Southard Ulrey. She married Clyde Smith on June 24, 1956 in Casey, he survives.

Also surviving are two daughters; Cindy (Bill) Heck of Urbana and Pam (Jeff) Edwards of Urbana, sister-in-law; Freda Ulrey of Altamont, six grandchildren; Shawna (Casey) Gernentz of Gifford, Jessica (Troy White) McDade of Champaign, Miranda Heck of Urbana, Keenan Lyons of Sheldon, Jordan Edwards and Kaylee Edwards of Urbana, seven great grandchildren; Kylie, Taden, Bryson, Brooklyn, Acasia, Dale and Bristol, plus many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother; John Ulrey.

Mrs. Smith worked as a telephone operator for Illinois Bell and then retired in August 1992 as the Supervisor of Communications at Carle.

She was a member of Pennsylvania Ave. Baptist Church, Urbana. Mrs. Smith loved traveling the U.S. with her husband, spending time with her children, Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. In her spare time she enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and watching U of I Basketball. She will be deeply missed by everyone's life she has touched.
