Phyllis Joan "Joann" Charles, 88, of Urbana passed away at 3:55 a.m. on Sunday, August 28th, 2016 in Urbana.

A visitation will be held from 11:00 - 12:00 on Saturday September 3rd, 2016 at the Renner-Wikoff Chapel in Urbana. Funeral Services will follow in the Chapel at 12:00. Burial will take place at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Champaign.

Joan was born on July 26th, 1928 in Newman, Illinois. She grew up in Broadlands and Homer with her sister Hazel and parents, Lillie and Fred Mohr. All preceded her in death.

On January 6, 1950 Joan married Roy Charles in Homer, IL, he passed away in June. Surviving are their three children, Carol Baumann (Terry) of Flower Mound, TX, Kirk Charles (Victoria) of Monticello and Andrew Charles (Linda) of Sidney. Ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren, Laurie and Lillie, also survive her.

Joan was a graduate of Homer High School and Burnham Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse in the newborn nursery and taught parent classes at Burnham for many years.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Urbana, the Burnham nurses alumni association, and United Methodist Women. Joan was also an Illini basketball fan; she enjoyed attending the games with Roy and getting hot chocolate at the Rebounders Club.

Joan loved collecting dolls, baking, shopping for garage sale "treasures" for her grandkids, and traveling with the love of her life, Roy. Together they visited all fifty states. By far her greatest joy was providing loving care for her family. She was the best - wife, mother, grandma, and great-grandma.
