Phillip Andrew Wassom, 62, of Sidney passed away at 3:10 p.m. on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 22, 2017 at Quest Church, 2004 Philo Rd., Urbana. Pastor Casey Taylor will officiate. A visitation will be held prior to the funeral from 10:00-11:00 am, at the church. Burial will take place at St. Mary Cemetery in Champaign after the funeral.

Phil was born in Champaign on September 23, 1955 to parents Francis and Lois (Storm) Wassom. Lois passed away on August 14, 1994. Also preceding Phil in death were his brothers; Barry Wassom, Greg Wassom, brother-in-law Daniel White and his nephew Josh Wassom.

He is survived by his father, Francis (Johanna) Wassom of Neoga, children; Melanie (Dan) Stewart of Fishers, IN, David Wassom of Fishers, IN and his siblings; Timothy Wassom of Urbana, Cynthia White of Urbana, Theresa Burnett of Urbana and Kelly (Angelica) Wassom of Tolono. His grandchildren; Joseph (Bri) Stewart, William Stewart, Nathaniel Stewart, Noah Wassom, his sisters-in-law; Cathy Wassom, Cynthia Wassom and many nieces and nephews also survive him.

Phil was a graduate of Champaign Central and retired from the University of Illinois in 2017. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved watching movies. Phil enjoyed working with wood, building chairs, dressers, beds, rocking horses, step stools, houses and many more items.

Phil traveled everywhere with his buddy Sidney, his Yorkshire Terrier. He cherished the time that he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. Phil was the type of person who would lend a hand to anyone in need. He is going to be missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
