WHITE HEATH, IL- Philip A. Bauman, 90, of rural White Heath, died at 10:05 A.M., January 27, 2009 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
Graveside services will be held 1:00 P.M., Friday, January 30, 2009 at the Illini Cemetery, Warrensburg, IL. Rev. Frank Garton will officiate. Visitation will be held from 9-11 A.M., Friday morning at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana.
Mr. Bauman was born December 1, 1918 at Warrensburg, IL, a son of George A. and Ethel Stone Bauman. He married Rita Langellier on December 24, 1940 and she preceded him in death on January 27, 1979. He later married Helen Eastin Krugh on October 25, 1980 and she preceded him in death on September 25, 2001. Survivors include many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and both spouses.
Mr. Bauman graduated from Warrensburg Community High School in 1936. He later graduated from the University of Illinois ROTC program in 1940 and served in the U.S. Army in the Signal Corps, 54th Battalion from 1941-1946. He served with the Persian Gulf Command from 1943-1945. He attained the rank of Captain. Mr. Bauman was a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering from 1946-1976 at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. He was a member of the American Legion and the NRA.
