URBANA, IL- Jacob "Pete" Roy Sadler, Jr., 88, of Urbana, IL, passed away at 8:10 P.M., Wednesday, July 4, 2012, at the Danville Veterans Administration Hospital in Danville, Illinois.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M., Sunday, July 8, 2012 at the Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana, IL. Danny Roberts will officiate. Burial will be held at Mt. Olive Cemetery, Mayview, IL, with military rites accorded by the Urbana American Legion 71. Visitation will be held from 4-6 P.M., Saturday afternoon (July 7) at the funeral home.

Mr. Sadler was born September 21, 1923 in Champaign, IL, a son of Jacob Roy Sadler, Sr. and Ruby (Smith) Sadler. He married Virginia Woller on July 27, 1952 in Urbana, IL. She survives. Also surviving is a son, Roy Sadler of Urbana, IL, two daughters, Jan Sadler of Urbana, IL and Cathy (Michael) Shaw of Urbana, IL. Three grandchildren, Jeremy (Jennifer) Shaw of Virden, IL, Amanda Sadler of Urbana, IL, Katie (Eric) Moody of Champaign, IL; one great grandchild, Jacob Moody, and a brother, Ernest Sadler of Dexter, MI also survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Bob, a sister and a brother.

Mr. Sadler graduated from Urbana High School and as a veteran of WWII, he served as a ball turret gunman, who flew 51 missions over Central Europe. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, European, African and Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon with three Bronze Stars, the Air Medal with five Oak Leaf Clusters and the Distinguished Unit Citation. He worked as a supervisor of maintenance for the Northern Illinois Water Corporation and retired after 40 years with the company. He was a member of Urbana VFW Post 630.
