Perry Francis Rannebarger, Jr. 97 of Urbana died at 5:21 a.m. Sunday, July 30, 2017 at Brookdale Assisted Living, Urbana.
Graveside services will be held at a later date. Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
Perry was born on August 21, 1919 in Bloomington, the son of Perry and Laura (Bay) Rannebarger.
He served in the Army during WW II from 1941 - 1945. He served in the Pacific at Mt. Austen, Guadalcanal with E Company of the 132nd Infantry and then served in France. After returning to his home in Saybrook, he met and married Marilyn Evans on June 16, 1946 in Hernando, Mississippi.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother; Joseph Bay Rannebarger and his wife of 70 years, Marilyn.
Perry and Marilyn raised two daughters and three sons in Urbana; Lynn (Bill) Cunningham of Kankakee, Diana (Dan) O'Connor of Libertyville, Joe Rannebarger (Tammy Heere) of Urbana, Dirk Rannebarger (Jill Humphrey) of Champaign and Eric Rannebarger of Bartow, Florida.
He had 8 grandchildren; Laura (Cunningham) Nowack (Tim), Wade Cunningham (Lou Ann Irwin), Alison Lovett, Jeff Lovett, Amy (Rannebarger) Hudelson (Bill), Steve (Shannon) Rannebarger, Emma Rannebarger and Molly Rannebarger.
He also had eleven great grandchildren; Kaitlyn and Daniel Nowack, Lydia and Will Cunningham, Jerry Fuentes, Emma, Jake, and Addison Hudelson, Abby and Alex Henry and Kendall Rannebarger.
Perry started his working career after the war as an auto mechanic at Roger's Chevrolet in Rantoul then Sullivan Chevrolet in Champaign. After training in the new technology of Television, Perry worked at Bandy's T.V. in Champaign and finished his career working for Sears in their service center in Champaign. Perry has always enjoyed tinkering with radios and repairing anything that broke. He also has enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, vegetable gardening and yard work.
