Obituary

Paul F. Luedtke, 78 of Urbana died at 11:31 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2008 at home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at Trinity Lutheran Church, East Florida Ave. Urbana, the Rev. Terry Strom will officiate. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Urbana. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, Urbana.

Paul was born October 2, 1929 in Brooklyn, New York, a son of Paul T. and Jennie Cogan Luedtke. Paul and Mary Ann Mattey were married on April 14, 1951 in Bayonne, New Jersey. They were married 56 years, she survives him.

Surviving also are two sons; Paul F. (Rebecca Anne) Luedtke, Nyon, Switzerland, Eric (Robbie) Luedtke of Mahomet and a daughter; Kathleen (Mark) Luedtke-Hoffman of Garland, Texas, and eight grandchildren.

Paul graduated from Bayonne High School, New Jersey, was a National Honors Society Recipient and attended Seton Hall University.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1948-1952 and was stationed at Chanute Air Force Base, Rantoul throughout the Korean War where he taught in the Department of Weather.

Following his discharge from the military, he was employed by the Carter's Companies where he became a part owner and President of Carter's Moving and Storage and Carter's Travel Service, Inc. until 1974. He then built and operated Emulsicoat Inc. as President and CEO. He purchased and operated Chief Heating & Air Conditioning until he joined Mercy Hospital as Director of Environmental Services where he retired in 1993.

Paul was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for over 54 years; he was an Elder and active in Lay Ministry. As an active member of Rotary International from 1965 until his death, he was Past President of Urbana Rotary and Governor of Rotary District 6490 in 1993-1994. He was re-appointed as Rotary District Governor for 2003-2004.

He served on the Board of Directors of Champaign County Bank & Trust Co., Urbana Savings & Loan, First Busey Trust & Investment Company and The Presidents Council of Busey Bank.

Paul served as President of the Illinois Movers & Warehouseman's Association, and was on the National Asphalt Emulsion Mfg. Association Research and Development committee.

He was a member of SCORE (The Senior Core of Retired Executives) for 14 years where he counseled and taught business related subjects to aspiring entrepreneurs.

Paul enjoyed photography and travel and was a presenter at The Parkland Community College "Life Long Learning" program.
