Paul F. Hackett, 89 of Urbana IL. passed away at 5:30 P.M on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 in Santa Barbara California, with his family by his side. Military Rites will be preformed at Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego California at a later date.
Mr. Hackett was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on March 30, 1923 to parents Paul P. and Mary (Bennett) Hackett. On June 30, 1949 he married the love of his life Jeanne Carol Murdock in Urbana and they were married for 63 happy years; she survives.
Also surviving is his loving daughter Kathleen H. (Roger) Forse of Santa Barbara, CA, two brothers; Terrance Hackett of Clearwater, FL, William Hackett of Lower Lake CA, and three sisters; Rita Clancy of Long Beach, CA, Marie McNamara of Levittown NY, and Veronica Corbett of San Diego, CA., and many nieces and nephews.
Paul was proceeded in death by his parents, brother Gene Hackett, sister Catherine McNinch and his son Stephen P. Hackett.
Mr. Hackett graduated from Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School, Brooklyn New York and the University of Illinois College of Commerce with a degree in business management. He was employed as a Construction Accountant for 35 years and retired from C.A. Petry and Sons Inc.
Mr. Hackett was a veteran of WWII, serving on the USS Mindanow as a Storekeeper 2nd Class in the Pacific Theater and as a NROTC Midshipman at the University of Missouri. Mr. Hackett had been a neighborhood commissioner for the Arrowhead Council, BSA, life member of the Elks Lodge number 2497, past Treasurer of the Champaign Mental Health Center and was a member of the Covenant Hospital Auxiliary. He was also a life member of the University of Illinois Alumni Association, the University Club, the Knights of Columbus, St. Patrick's Church in Urbana, VFW Post 630, the American Legion Post 71, Busey 50 Travel Club and the Urbana Half Century Club.
Paul was an avid duplicate bridge player, he enjoyed going fishing and ballroom dancing with Jeanne. He also loved planning vacations for his family. They went to many beautiful places in the United States. Paul's favorite destinations were Hawaii and California.
Paul was a loving husband and father. His wife and children adored him, he will be missed by everyone who knew him.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made out to St. Patrick's Church in Urbana, Paul F. Hackett memorial fund. Memorial contributions will go to the family to help with final expenses.
