Opal Cantrell, 94,of Urbana passed away Friday (May 15, 2015) in the home of her daughter Laura, in Elizabeth, Colorado.

Opal was born December 13, 1920, in Eldorado, Illinois, a daughter of Alexander and Rena (Hawkins) Ray. She married James Elton Cantrell on April 17, 1942.

Surviving are two children: James R. (Paulette) Cantrell of Urbana, and Laura L. (Ron) Houser of Elizabeth, Co. Also surviving are four grandchildren: Kristin (Jonathon) Santamont, Ryan Cantrell, Bryan Lachata, Drew Lachata, and one great-grandson, Nolan Santamont.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her son, David.

Opal was a devoted mother; a great Christian example for her children. She loved life and lived it to the fullest. She was a big sports fan and really enjoyed U of I Basketball and baseball. Her witticisms made her famous. She was loved and respected by all who knew her.

Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, May 23rd at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana. A service will be held at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Rich Gregory officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Urbana.
