Norma Nickelson Smith, 87, of Golden, Colorado formerly of Mahomet, passed away August 30, 2014 at Bear Creek Care Center, Morrison, Colorado. Norma was born on August 4, 1927 in Homer, to Thomas Nelson and Essie Pearletta Nickelson. Norma married Homer Alphus Smith August 10, 1946 in Urbana. He preceded her in death in 1983. She is survived by daughter Barbara Jean (Gary) Hill of Golden, Colorado; grandchildren Justin (Trinity) Hill of Azle, Texas and Kim Hill of Redfield, Iowa; great grandchildren Kamryn and Jacob Hill of Azle, Texas; and sisters Carol (John) Welch of Mahomet and Linda Smiley of Rock Island. She was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers Cecil, Dale, Glen, Eugene and Owen Nickelson. During her years in Illinois, she worked for Model Souders Laundry Champaign; Magnavox Company Urbana; Solo Cup Company Urbana and PSE Archery Mahomet. The family asks that in lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a memorial donation may be made to the First Baptist Church of Mahomet for the nursing home ministry.
