Nathaniel Robert Smith 82 of Champaign died at 4:28 p.m. Sunday, May 6, 2012 at the Champaign County Nursing Home, Champaign.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 12, 2012 at the Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, Urbana, Elder Dana Ehrhart will officiate. Burial will be in the Danville National Cemetery, Danville.

Mr. Smith was born on April 5, 1930 in Libertyville, Maryland, the son of Joshua and Lillian Smith. He married Dorothy Jeanette Dillon, she died in October 1995.

Survivors include three daughters; Marla Smith of Decatur, Angela Smith of Champaign and Deitra (Jeremiah) Schaumburger of Austell, Georgia, two sons; Rob N. (Ethel) Smith of Champaign and R. Devon (Sharon) Smith of Aurora, Colorado, one brother, Raymond Smith of Baltimore, Maryland, six grandchildren; Alonzo Smith, Terrence Kelly, Micah Smith, Lamar Kelly, Travis Smith and Eboni Kelly and six great grandchildren; Sierra Smith, Dimaggio Kelly, Kora Kelly, Copeland Kelly, Miles Smith and Liam Kelly.

He was preceded in death by six brothers; Herbert Smith, Wes Smith, Jim Smith, Joe Smith, Sam Smith and John Smith.

Mr. Smith was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a professional mechanic.

He was a very outgoing person who loved his family, friends and joking around.
