Nancy B. Lindell, 80, of Champaign passed away December 12, 2008 after a long battle with cancer.
Nan, as she preferred to be called, was born May 24, 1928 in Nashville, TN, a daughter of Adam Baume and Nancy Flannagan. She married Phillip Lindell July 24, 1972 in Champaign. He died September 21, 1994.
Surviving are her three stepchildren, Pam Lindell, John Lindell, and Elizabeth Markstahler, and her loving partner, Don Stroh, all of Champaign; and her brother Bill Baume of Reedsville, OH.
Nan graduated from Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, OH with degrees in geology and Spanish. She worked in Libraries throughout her life beginning in 1944 in Baltimore. She worked at the University of Illinois library from the early fifties through May 1989. Her part and full-time work was in various departments, although the majority of her service was in the Acquisitions Department.
Nan was a lifetime member of Emmanuel Memorial Episcopal Church. As a longtime member of the Altar Guild she worked for many years on their Easter Egg project. She also worked on parish outreach projects and helped with parish office work.
Nan had passions for her cats and 'grandcats'; all animals; jazz; and sewing and quilting. A 'people person', she also enjoyed spending time with friends and family. She supported numerous charities including the Christian Children's Fund and Best Friends Animal Sanctuary.
Services will be at Emmanuel Memorial Episcopal Church, 102 N. State, C. on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Alan Herbst and Rev. Christine Hopkins. There will be no visitation although there will be a reception at the church following the funeral. A private burial will be held at Pine Ridge Cemetery in Loda, IL.
Memorials to honor Nana may be made to the Emmanuel Memorial Episcopal Church of the Champaign County Humane Society. Condolences may be offered at renner-wikoffchapel.com.
